Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

HCS SB 68 -- AMBULANCE AND FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT

SPONSOR: Childers (Wasson)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Local Government by a vote of 16 to 0.

This substitute makes a technical change to the Ambulance and
Fire Protection District Sales Tax Trust Fund. Under current
law, the Director of the Department of Revenue must authorize the
State Treasurer to make refunds from the amounts in the trust
fund and credit any district for erroneous payments and
overpayments made. The substitute allows the director to make
the refunds and credits.

The substitute also allows for the statewide certification of an
emergency medical technician-intermediate. Under current law,
this position is only authorized in certain charter and first
classification counties.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill corrects a mistake in
legislation passed several years ago.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Childers.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
